The third design from The Land Down Under program depicts famed explorer, Captain James Cook. Captain Cook is known as the 18th century navigator and pioneer whose achievements in mapping the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia radically changed western perceptions of world geography.

STUNNING REVERSE DESIGN


The coin’s reverse depicts a seated portrait of Captain Cook and HMS Bark Endeavour, within a map outline of Australia.  The inscription THE LAND DOWN UNDER and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are 
also incorporated in the design.


AUSTRALIAN LEGAL TENDER


Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.


AUSTRALIAN MAP-SHAPED DISPLAY CASE


Housed in a unique Australian map-shaped latex case with a stylised shipper, this beautiful coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificatze of Authenticity.

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present a joint special release celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first banknote in Australia, for the 2013 FIP World Stamp Exhibition.
In 1910 the Australian Notes Act was passed, and in 1913 the first series of Australian notes which were based on the old British system were issued.
The first Australian currency note, the ten shilling denomination was produced in May 1913. Other denominations from £1 to £1,000 followed during the years 1913 – 1915.

PROOF QUALITY 99.9% PURE SILVER

The 100th Anniversary of Australia’s First Banknote coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

STRIKING DESIGN

The coin’s reverse features a coloured representation of Australia’s first ten shilling banknote. The inscription AUSTRALIA’S FIRST BANKNOTE 100TH ANNIVERSARY and the dates 1913 – 2013 are also portrayed in the design with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

AUSTRALIAN LEGAL TENDER

OFFICIAL AUSTRALIA POST STAMPS

Two Australia Post stamps with denominations of 60c and $2.60 complete this set.  The 60c stamp depicts a portrayal of the official note numbering ceremony in 1913, and the $2.60 stamp depicts the Australian Coat of Arms as it appears on the first banknote.

BEAUTIFUL PACKAGING AND NUMBERED CERTIFICATE

Accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the coin and stamps are housed in a display case and wonderfully illustrated box-shipper featuring the 2013 FIP World Stamp Exhibition logo.
